Golf Development

Ulster has had an enviable record in university golf at the highest level for a number of years.  Through our Sports Development Unit we are keen to enhance that reputation by providing increased opportunities for golfers of all standards from grassroots through to elite level performance.

The programme is designed to link together the competitive and recreational elements of university golf and in doing so encourage students and staff, regardless of their ability, to take part in golf and to enjoy the social and physical benefits that can be gained from regular involvement in golfing activity.

The programme combines a range of taster sessions, blocks of coaching and regular sociable outings, with competitive golf, providing a programme that offers something for all levels of golfers under:

• Try Golf
• Learn Golf
• Play Golf
• Royal Portrush G.C & Galgorm G.C Membership opportunities

Try / Learn Golf at Ulster

Golf can be a very expensive, time consuming and frustrating sport when starting out.  All this, combined with a heavy work load often acts as a barrier to participation and can put many potential golfers off.  Through the Golf Development Programme the Sports Development Unit aims to introduce students and staff to golf with the least fuss possible.

Through the Try / Learn Golf element of the programme students and staff can access:

• One off “Come and Try It” lessons
• A series of driving range lessons
• A series of indoor lessons right here in the Sports Centre on campus

Each set of lessons will be:

• Delivered by a PGA professional
• Delivered at a reduced rate to Ulster Golf Club members
• All equipment will be provided

Entry is by submission of an application form which will be available from the Sports Centre Reception and the downloads section of the website.

Play Golf at Ulster

Play Golf is designed to promote participation in golf but also to encourage social interaction and develop relations among students and staff.  Play Golf is aimed at those with a keen interest in golfing activity, but who perhaps may not wish, or are unable, to commit to weekly activity.

Through the Play Golf element students and staff can access:

• Up to 6 outings per academic year
• Alumni Golf Challenge
• Exceptional golf courses across N. Ireland
• Ulster ‘Order of Merit’ competition
• Reduced green fees on selected courses

Together, all this provides a great opportunity to exercise, relax and enjoy regular participation in golf during your time at Ulster.

For a list of proposed venues and dates for 2009/10 outings please see the Club Diary section of the website.
